academic writing for thesis and paper

Hi all, as an international PhD student, I am wondering does anyone have any ideas about how to improve academic writing for thesis and paper?    My supervisor told me that my writing english is not native enough. Sometimes the expression is a bit akward and there are some places that he couldn't understand. It is my fault that I didn't do enough proofreading. But besides of the grammars, I think my expression may also have some problems. As I am not a native speaker, I couldn't find

Developing a writing plan

At the last meeting with my supervisor, he asked that I develop a writing plan (setting out deadlines for completing each chapter). Does anyone have a good model plan that they don't mind sharing or a link to any valuable resources for developing a writing plan?

*Get Published event*

Hi all, Get Published event is taking place tomorrow in REx, 16.30 - 18.30. It's a great chance to chat to students who have published about the whole process, from choosing the topic of your paper to promting it once it's published.    You can find more info and register here, and I hope to see many of you there! Ana p.s. Refreshments will be provided. ;)

Impostor syndrome

Has anyone been to this workshop? http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/services/skills/pgr/programme/p4r/ The next one is not for several months and as an MSc I'm not technically legible, however, I really identify with the symptoms of this phenomonon. Does anyone have any advice for how to manage this or can point me towards some reading?

PhD interview

I've been invited for an interview at Bristol university following my application for a Maths PhD there. I'm not too sure what to expect, the questions I'll be asked, and the questions I should ask. I'm meeting the admissions tutor, and the supervisor I proposed in my application and a few other potential supervisors. Anyone who has gone through this experience have any advice?

Lonely holiday?

Hi everyone I was just thinking about PG's who might be staying on campus or in accommodation over the holiday/ end of term break. I think it can be a lonely time if friends and peers go home or away for a few weeks. What can people do to keep sane? To avoid the Winter blues and keep socialising?

NVivo

Hi! I'm a PhD student in the department of sociology. I'm doing discourse analysis at present and I'd like to learn NVivo for qualitative analysis.  Is anyone using it now?  I'm not sure if it is suitable for analysing users' comments online.

Mock viva

Hi, I know mock vivas can be arranged within the department but these can sometimes be difficult to arrange, especially with the increasing workload that many academics are under. I was wondering, is there someone/team within the graduate school/RSSP who can give you a mock viva, or help in any way with viva preperation?  Thanks!
